How to Take Your Measurements for Women’s Clothing
When shopping for women’s clothing, the three key measurements are bust, waist, and hip circumference.
Measuring Your Bust:
To ensure accuracy, wrap a measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust. The tape should extend under your armpits, along your shoulder blades, and return to the front.
Tip: Wear a non-padded bra for the most precise measurement.
Measuring Your Waist:
Identify your natural waist—the narrowest part of your torso—typically located about 2 inches (5 cm) above your belly button. A simple trick is to lean to one side; the crease that forms indicates your natural waistline.
Tip: Avoid sucking in your stomach to prevent inaccurate readings.
Measuring Your Hips:
Stand straight with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, usually about 8 inches (20 cm) below your waist. Use a mirror to check that the tape is level. You can also measure your thighs by wrapping the tape around the widest part from one side seam to the other.
How to Measure Your Waist for a Dress:
For dresses, determining the correct waist measurement is crucial. Measure the narrowest part of your waist. If you have difficulty pinpointing this spot, slide the tape measure up and down until you find the smallest circumference. Once found, double that measurement to get your full waist size.
